I’m having a hard time summarizing this one because it’s a must-see for everyone. Even though I haven’t read the webtoon, this series exceeded all my expectations.

STORY
The story of Weak Hero felt like two intertwining narratives, and it’s all the better for it. What I initially expected from the teaser was completely upended. This drama is more than just gripping action; it delves deeply into the long-lasting effects of interpersonal violence and bullying. Each episode built on the last, with a script and direction that masterfully use foreshadowing and parallels. It’s a thought-provoking journey that’s both deliberate and beautifully executed. While some script elements might feel glossed over or confusing to some, I found the character motivations and progression natural and compelling. The ending is satisfying yet leaves you eager for more, even if it hints at a possible second season.

ACTING
Typically, I don’t turn to action dramas for emotional depth, but this cast delivered exceptional performances along with impressive fight scenes.

As a Jihoon fan, I’ll try to be impartial. Park Jihoon’s portrayal of Yeon Sieun was outstanding. Sieun could have been one-dimensional, but Jihoon’s nuanced acting brought the character to life.

Hong Kyung gave a standout performance that’s likely the most compelling I’ve seen this year. His portrayal demands attention.
